I agree! Taking time to refill the creative well away from the confines of your office, kitchen table, and laptop is sooooo valuable. I love getting inspiration from music!

Great advice, Donna!
Especially the part about not feeling guilty.
And taking some time to enjoy life.

Donna Cummings

Kari Marie, I think we forget sometimes how much is going on around us. We get so caught up in the world we've created that we forget the good stuff nearby. :) I like how music inspires me too, with a plot idea, or a mood for a scene.

Donna Cummings

Julie, it's funny, but sometimes trying to NOT feel guilty is incredibly difficult! I think we need to enjoy life more, so this is a reminder for me (as usual! LOL)

Donna -

You are absolutely right. When I began my first book, I also decided to train for a marathon.

It felt a little insane. "How much me-time does one person need?"

But it wasn't about crossing things off my bucket-list (although writing a book and completing a marathon would have made been two items); Truthfully, I did my BEST brainstorming while out training.

Those three runs fueled the rest of my week of writing.

So I agree with you wholeheartedly.

And I plan to run this morning before writing my next blog post.

I'm always afraid the next thing I write will be my last. But as long as I keep going outside, I think the ideas will keep coming.

Fingers crossed...

Julie, I so admire all the running you do. You might catch me doing it if a zombie were behind me, trying to snack on my brains. LOL

And I know what you mean about worrying the next thing you write will be the last. I was feeling that this past week, even though I was hanging out with other writers, but now I'm feeling recharged. It was such a nice change of scenery, which was inspiring, and I think that's what our brains really cry out for.

I'll keep fingers crossed for both of us. :) And I'll be waiting here with a cool beverage for when you're done running. LOL

Best way to get butt out of chair is to have a dog that must be walked. Bonnie escorts me from that chair at least twice a day!

Donna Cummings

Maureen, that's what I need -- a dog! There are times when I wish I had one, and having a dog get you up and moving is a good thing. :)
