I'm excited to be #6 on today's Six Sentence Sunday link list. Such a great number!
I've included another excerpt from my romantic comedy, I Do. . .or Die, and at the end, I've added links for the previous snippets in case you want to read those too.
In this excerpt, the heroine Shelby talks about her feelings for Ryan, the detective assigned to the case:
I hated how he made my heart beat a little faster, and not like during a really good aerobic workout. It was actually more like dashing out the door, after my usual two or three cups of really strong coffee, worried that I'd left the curling iron on, but too late to go back and check.
Why would I feel anything for someone who was so clearly unimpressed with me?
The laws of attraction didn’t make much sense to me. Maybe someone should write a policy manual, with guidelines and suggested procedures. It would be a lot easier for me to follow the rules if it didn’t feel like they were written on a sticky note that kept getting glued to my butt.
Part 1 -- Part 2 -- Part 3 -- Part 4
The very last part made me smile. Great six as usual.

"...glued to my butt."
Love it! Great six and funny... :c) I don't normally care for romantic comedy but I think you might be an exception :c)

Agree with the other comments...glue to my butt!
Great six!

Glued is great but I love her description of HOW he made her heart beat faster...
"...three cups of really strong coffee, worried that I'd left the curling iron on..."
Love your 6!

Enjoyed that six..great insight into your character :)

Love how you say a lot with very few words to make a very identifiable character!
Posted by: Melissa | April 08, 2012 at 09:35 AM
Thanks, Heather! I'm heading over to read yours too.
TempesteO -- I'm glad to bring you over to the dark side. LOL
Jynnipher -- So glad you enjoyed it.

Áine -- I had to use copy/paste so I could keep the cool accent mark in your name. :) I'm glad you liked the description--we all need someone who makes our heart do that. LOL
Ursula -- I'm glad it gave you a smile. :)

Christine -- thanks! She was such a fun character to write.
Melissa -- Shelby is indeed a very identifiable character. LOL Probably because it's in 1st POV. But I really enjoyed writing her comments and dialogue. I'd forgotten how much, until I started re-reading so I could post these snippets. :)

Love this! This is exactly how I feel about the who attraction tango--everyone else got the manual. You described so well the racing of her heart, instead of just saying "her heart beat faster" and, as noted, I loved how you describe her frustration at not knowing how the whole rules of attraction work....

Angela, thanks! It IS a complicated dance, isn't it? LOL I think I typically use the "her heart beat faster" shorthand, but I've convinced myself that Shelby's voice and personality is what allowed me to do this differently. I really had fun with writing this story.

I love the last line! That's classic.
Very good six,

I know exactly how she feels - excellent description! Can't wait to read more about these characters - terrific six...

Great stuff, Donna. I love how you weave coffee into this story. Great job depicting her conflicted feelings--haven't we all felt that way at one time or another? :)

Michelle, thanks so much!
Kate, I was just over at your site, leaving my comment on your hilarious snippet. LOVED it.
Thanks, Veronica. I'm having so much fun reading everyone's excerpts, like yours. It's such a treat.
Joya, my characters tend to love coffee as much as I do. LOL And yes, those conflicted feelings -- a universal thing. :)

Oh, Donna! I LOVE this heroine. It sounds like Shelby knows the Coffee Fae, too. ;) This is a great snippet. SO many great "one-liners"!

LOL, Silver -- I think Shelby and the Coffee Fae are great friends! I'm so glad you enjoyed this. :)

I love the humour in this and can't help but agree that a Haynes Manual for relationships would be a best seller.

Lorraine and Tonya -- so glad you love Shelby. She makes me laugh a lot too. :)
Sidney and Elin -- somebody needs to write that relationship rule book, like now! LOL
