Even though I'm in denial about the end of Six Sentence Sunday -- just four weeks left! -- I've decided to share some sentences from my upcoming Samhain novella, Back on Track. I posted one snippet last summer, and if you'd like to read it again, it's here.
My hero and heroine meet on the Napa Wine Train, and Allie pretends she doesn't know Matt is a world-famous baseball pitcher. In fact, she tells him she used to date the world-famous baseball pitcher, which is news to him, since this is the first time they've met. But Matt goes along, trying to get Allie to spill info about what it was like dating the superstar:
“I’m trying to figure out what was wrong with the man if he let you get away.”
“Everyone always thinks he’s the one who ended things. But he’s not--I did.”
“I knew it. I’ll bet he’s a selfish blowhard, the kind that’s always talking about himself.”
“In the third person,” she said primly.

I'm so thrilled that Lexxie at Risque Reviews gave Lord Midnight 4.5 stars, which earns it a Top Pick! I've included a link to her review, and I love how it starts with "Donna Cummings does it again!"
Which gives me a perfect opportunity to mention that Lexxie also gave I Do. . . or Die 4.5 stars, and a Top Pick award.

I've never really been a fan of "Best of" lists at the end of each year. That is, until I ended up on one. And not just one, but TWO!
Lexxie of Risque Reviews and Unconventional Book Views included me on a list of Top Ten New-to-her Authors. She gave I Do. . .or Die its very first review, complete with 4.5 stars and a Top Pick, which was incredibly exciting. But to be included on a Top Ten list is an indescribable thrill.
So you can imagine my thrill-meter going off the charts when I found out I was included on another list, this time for Lord Midnight. This one was by Susan Frances, who had discovered my book through one of the blog hops I'd participated in. She said such lovely things about Lord Midnight, which you can see on her list of her 10 Favorite Reads of 2012.
I'm definitely happy with how 2012 turned out, writing-wise. I met a lot of fun people -- writers and readers and bloggers -- and it was great getting my books published and discovered. I know 2013 is going to be lots of fun too. I'm eager to see what happens next!
