I've decided to continue posting snippets on Sunday from whatever strikes my fancy. Today I've got a little bit from a novella I'm finishing and plan to self-publish in the very near future. I have the cover ready and waiting, as you can see, so I just need to do some final renovations and get it out there.
This is the first story in The Curse of True Love series, where Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, tries to relieve her boredom by playing matchmaker in Regency London. Unfortunately she seems to be putting a curse on the young lovers she's trying to match up, causing all kinds of mayhem for everyone.
In this story, the hero, Simon, is late to his own wedding, and his bride Georgiana left him standing at the altar. Now Simon is talking to his best friend, Hugh, about how to remedy the situation. Hugh, who will be the hero of the next book, Lord Wastrel, is not yet lovestruck like Simon is:
"It was such a magical meeting," Simon said. "I had bumped into Georgiana while trying to outrun one of those matchmaking mamas with that determined gleam in her eye. I swear I fell in love at first sight."
Hugh raised a sardonic eyebrow. "If I ever have that dreamy quality to my voice when describing a woman I want to bed--"
Simon glared at him.
"Wed," Hugh amended hastily. "Simply march me to the most public spot in Hyde Park and aim my own duelling pistol at my heart."
"I am an excellent shot, Weyson, but even I am unable to make a direct hit on an invisible target."
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have an amazing week of writing and reading!
