It's less than a month until Back on Track is released, and I am beyond excited. I had so much fun with that story, and I'm hoping you'll enjoy Matt and Allie as much as I did.
One thing I really enjoyed with that book was the hero's best friend, Troy. I've been working on a story for him, tentatively titled Heartbreaker. The section I'm snippeting (did I just make up a new word?) is still a draft version--and it shows Troy, sitting in the sports pub he co-owns with Matt, trying to avoid talking about his feelings for the new woman in his life.
"Talk about déjà vu," Troy said. "Only you were the déjà and I was the vu."
Matt grinned. "I have no idea what you're trying to say. But I can see you're distracted by that sexy blonde over there."
"She's not a sexy blonde. She's my sexy blonde."
Matt clinked his beer glass against Troy's. "Well, that's intriguing. Care to explain more?"
"Nope," Troy answered cheerfully. "But I'll be happy to ignore any more questions you have."
"Perfect." Matt glanced around the room, unconcerned.
Allie returned from the ladies' room and plopped down in the chair between Matt and Troy. "So who's the sexy blonde you've been glaring at?"
Matt nearly spewed his beer. "We're not allowed to ask questions about her."
Allie waved him away. "I'm sure that was just a guy thing. Troy didn't mean for me to not ask him, did you?"
Troy sighed. "Matt, would you mind giving Allie and me a little girl time?"
"No problem, buddy. I'll just go hang out with some of my guy friends over here." He ducked just in time to avoid getting hit in the head by a balled-up napkin. "Have you been practicing with my pitching coach? That was damn good."
"You're just lucky I decided to miss. Now shoo. Allie and I have things to discuss."
Matt leaned down and gave Allie a scorching kiss. "Don't tell him too many secrets. He might end up happily attached or something."
She grinned against his mouth. "I'll see what I can do."
Matt walked away, the picture of a very contented man, and Troy felt a stab of envy in his chest. "He's lucky to have you. I mean it."
"I'm lucky, too," she answered, watching Matt laughing with a group of friends. "And you know he loves you, right?"
Troy wrinkled his nose. "Guys don't talk about that."
"Yeah, but girls do." She giggled. "So since it's just us girls here--"
He tilted his head back and laughed. "No wonder he loves you so much. I do too."
"See, you're good at this girl stuff!"
Thanks for stopping by today! For more "guy talk", you can check out my recent Heroes & Heartbreakers post, "Don't Do It In Animal Masks": Advice from the Wingman.
Cute. I'm looking forward to reading both stories.

Looking good! :) I also love the "bonus" of more of Matt and Allie in the new story!

Kate, thanks -- I hope you enjoy both of them!
Melissa, that's one of the reasons I love sequels, getting to see the previous characters. It's so hard to let them go. LOL
Thanks, Virginia -- I'm having a lot of fun with this story. :)
