It's been way too long since I've been able to participate in Weekend Writing Warriors, and I'm looking forward to reading everyone's snippets. I miss your snippets!
This is from my latest, Lord Rakehell's Love. It's a novella that commences The Curse of True Love series, where Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, tries her hand at playing matchmaker in Regency London. Unfortunately, it doesn't go smoothly. In fact, the hero, Simon, is late to his own wedding, and the bride leaves him at the altar.
In this snippet, Simon is discussing things with his best friend, Hugh:
"I swear I fell in love with her at first sight." He sighed. "Or maybe it was that delightful moment when she mocked my flirtation skills—"
"If I ever have that dreamy quality to my voice when describing a woman I want to bed—"
Simon scowled at him.
"Wed," Hugh amended. "March me to the most public spot in Hyde Park and aim my own duelling pistol at my heart."
"I am an excellent shot, Weyson, but even I am unable to make a direct hit on an invisible target."
Oh, Hugh. I can't wait until you meet your match in the sequel, Lord Wastrel. *evil cackle* Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I'm off to read your posts now!
And stop by my Friday Friends interview with fellow Weekend Writing Warrior, S. J. Maylee. You'll want to see her answers to my Tasty Ten speed-dating questions. (Especially "pecs or abs?")
Your set up on this is really cool. I cant imagine the mischief Aphrodite will get in to

Excellent, Donna! The dialogue flows naturally--and sounds just like it would between friends. Putting this on my TBR list(it's endless) ;-) Welcome back!! It's mighty good to read your post. We've missed them :-)

"an invisible target"?? Laughed out loud at that bit. Geez I wish I'd found time to read your book this weekend. (My own book release stuff got in the way unfortunately) Must do it soon. Great snippet.

Michelle, I'm so glad you liked it! I'm having fun with Aphrodite and all the mischief she causes, and tries to fix. :)
Teresa, I'm happy to be back, and thrilled to be on your TBR list. (Mine is "to infinity and beyond". LOL)
Heather, book release stuff ALWAYS comes first. And congrats on that! I'm adding yours to my TBR list too. . .and I'm looking forward to your Friday Friends visit. :)

Love the back and forth. Invisible target, great line. Congratulations again on the release. This looks like a great read. Hey, and thanks for the mention!! Pecs or abs, you're too cruel, lol. :D

Thanks, S.J.! And I guess next time I'll ask "pecs and abs OR. . ." Eeek. Maybe not. LOL

Well, Aprodite was never a goddess who didn't cause trouble without meaning to.

I love the premise and the dialog was excellent. Really makes me want to keep reading and spend more time with these characters. Terrific snippet!

Had a note in my diary to buy in September .... I now have it!
Donna, you seem to have a thing about wedding disasters. First the bullets in 'Do or Die' and now the bride walking away at the altar.
All makes for a superb read though! LOL

LOL -- I guess I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're right! Weddings are just ripe for all kinds of disasters. :)
I had a target date of September 1, but Amazon moved much more quickly than I anticipated. It was up and available for sale in about 3 hours! Smashwords has it too, but they're taking a longer time getting it approved to send to the other sites. So I ended up being both ahead AND behind schedule. LOL
Thanks for getting it. I hope you enjoy. :)
