A.S. is another delightful friend I met during the halcyon days of Six Sentence Sunday. (I'm really starting to think I didn't have *any* writer friends before then.) Anywho, I chat with A.S. on Twitter, and Facebook, and it seems like wine is involved, a lot. Which makes perfect sense if you've ever seen the recipes she showcases on her blog. Fingers crossed that she'll bring some of those goodies with her today.
Oh, and when we set up this visit, the release date of her newest book was for sometime in December. BUT, it looks like the date has been changed to today. Clearly we have untapped superpowers if we can change release dates in a single, well, something. Please help me welcome the lovely and talented A. S. Fenichel to Friday Friends!
Hi Donna, Thanks for inviting me for a visit. I’m really happy to be here.
It's a treat to have you here! Now, of all the characters you've created, which one is your favorite? (Characters, quick! Look over there!) Why do you love them best?
That’s such an unfair question! LOL. I’m going to tell you what I tell my nieces when they ask me who is my favorite niece. "The one that is standing closest to me at the moment." Stop rolling your eyes at me, Donna. I mean it. I love the one that I’m with best of all, so this morning it’s Joshua from the follow up book to Kane’s Bounty (current title, Joshua’s Mistake). Later I’ll be working on marketing stuff for Alaskan Exposure, my HOT contemporary that released November 1. I’ll be mad about the sexy first officer, Kyle. ;) Fickle!
Fickle? It sounds like you're giving equal time to everyone! (I can help with that, by the way. I need something to do since I can't roll my eyes. LOL) What's your go-to "writing avoidance" technique? (I'm so glad we'll never run out of these!)
I mess around on the internet or cuddle with Molly the cat.
I think the internet was invented so writers could take "a little break". If you were able to go on a writing retreat, where would it be? (Oh, don't mind me. I'm just airing out my suitcases. . .so I can fill them back up with clothes.)
Ha! I love to travel as you probably know from my Travelogue Tuesday blog. One place… One place… How can I choose one place?... Got it! Sorrento, Italy. Good weather, beautiful views, friendly people and great food and wine. What more could I ask for?
Besides ME as your traveling companion? I can't think of anything! What's the word you love to use (and overuse, so you have to take it out of your book during edits)?
“laugh” Evidently my characters are fairly hysterical throughout the books. Though in my edits for Revving Up the Holidays (releasing today) I had the hero whispering in the heroine’s ear a lot. My editor kept say, "really, again with the leaning in and whispering." I made some adjustments. LOL
But I loooove laughing and whispering! Name the first thing you'll do when you make a million dollars from your books.
I’ll be Sorrento bound, baby! Want to come along? Oh and then I’ll pay off some debt. LOL
Oh yeah, I'm so there with you. I'll even help you rack up some debt, to make sure you have enough to pay off!
Okay, here's the Tasty Ten lightning round, where we get to know you in a speed dating kind of way:
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Drafting or revising? Drafting
Twitter or Facebook? Facebook
Winter or Summer? Summer
Red or white? Red
Cowboy or pirate? Cowboy but pirates are hot too. ;)
Heels or flats? Heels (though I rarely get the opportunity these days)
Morning or evening? Morning
Pecs or abs? Pecs
Biter or licker? (Hellloooo! I'm talking ice cream cones here!) Licker… Sure you are.

Sacrifice is the only way to stay together, but the price might just be too high.
A Romantica® contemporary romance from Ellora’s Cave
Excerpt
From the first chapter of Alaskan Exposure. This is the first time Charley sees Kyle.
When she saw an officer talking to a group of passengers, she immediately clicked off a few pictures. He was tall. His chest and shoulders filled out the white uniform and he smiled easily at the three women who peppered him with questions while batting their eyelashes shamelessly. The youngest of the three looked to be at least ten years older than the sailor.
Charley zoomed in on his bright blue eyes and neatly cropped dark, curly hair. He seemed genuinely interested in what the women were saying. If she had to guess, the handsome officer must have known the passengers. She clicked several more pictures.
His eyes turned toward her. There was a moment of surprise, followed by a slow, private smile. Inside her lens he was so close he penetrated her comfort zone. Charley felt her cheeks flush and she took the camera away from her face.
He’d caught her with her hand in the cookie jar. She’d invaded his privacy and he smiled warmly across the expanse of blue carpet. But he didn’t look the least bit offended. Normally she asked people if she could photograph them, though spontaneous pictures always turned out better. Making a conscious effort to slow her heart and ignore her embarrassment, she felt her cheeks cool slightly.

Hi, A.S. *waves* Nice to meet you :)
Congrats on Alaskan Exposure. Hopefully, you're not crazed with that early release date, LOL. It seems I'm always scrambling when that happens to me.
BTW, loved your favorite character answer. I feel exactly the same way...whoever has my attention at the time!

Thanks for stopping by, Mae! It seems like whenever I'm trying to give my attention to a character, another one sneaks up on me and tries to seduce me away. They're such sneaky creatures. LOL

Hi Mae! Thanks for stopping in today. It has been a scramble. But I'm happy the book is out early, so it's all good. :D

I know those recipe posts you're talking about, Donna. A.S. knows how to make me hungry. :) I'm so going to Italy with you guys. That would be so much fun. Well done on the tasty ten. Congrats on the releases!!

S.J., the more the merrier! Although it looks like I'll be the only one of the bunch that will be using a NAME, not initials. LOL I wonder how much, or how LITTLE, writing we'd get done on this retreat. :)
Posted by: Donna Cummings | November 22, 2013 at 08:05 PM
LOL! If we go, I promise you can use my first name. ;) S.J., thanks very much. I'm so excited about this book.

Okay, whew! I feel better now that I don't have to keep track of all those initials. Especially after we travel the countryside, sampling all the local grapes! And congrats again on all the new releases. :)

Ha!! Let me consider this, first name basis with you two? Yes please, lol. Also, I'm saying yes to local grapes, local coffee, and some writing too. I think my priorities are pretty good. :)
