I love the hopefulness that accompanies New Year's Day.
January 1 represents a cosmic do-over, an opportunity to wash away the sin of not living up to our own expectations.
No matter how many New Year's Eve celebrations we've seen come and go, that whole clean slate thing still buoys our optimism. We joyfully count down those last moments between where we are and where we want to be. We celebrate, with champagne and kisses, being given another chance to craft a new and improved version of ourselves, and our future.
It doesn't hurt to sprinkle a little luck in there too. Hoppin' John, a dish made with black-eyed peas, is supposed to bring luck if you eat it on New Year's Day. According to Wikipedia,
"One tradition common in the Southern USA is that each person at the meal should leave three peas on their plate to assure that the New Year will be filled with Luck, Fortune and Romance."
Now that's a threesome we could all enjoy! Since I'm not really a fan of black-eyed peas, I'm bound to increase my luck, fortune, and romance when I leave way more than three peas on my plate. . .
Anyway, here's to a very happy and hopeful 2015! Let's check back on December 31st to see how things went, okay? I've got a good feeling about this year.
Happy New Year, Donna! I love all the bright shiny possibilities lingering ahead in 2015. Optimism is a great thing (and easy for me today since it's Friday, LOL). Let's hope we accomplish everything we want too....and still have the same sense of enthusiasm by December 31st! :)

Happy New Year to you, Mae! I agree that optimism is a great thing, and it does seem to expand and contract depending on other factors. :) I'm hoping there will be an abundance of it this year, so it can help us accomplish many wonderful things (like more books from you for me to read!)
